League FAQs

Season

Saturdays from third or forth week in August to the first or second week in November. The Picture Day is usually mid-September. Cancelled games due to weather or wet fields will NOT be rescheduled (Rec only).  The first weekend in August will be a seeding tournament for U8, U10 & U12 players, and a regular game for U6 & U14.

Tentative Game fields

U6-Gilmore, U8-Scotten, U10-7 Hills, U12-Sierra College, U12 Girls-Bear River, U14-Mautino, U14 Girls-Bear River.

Girls Teams

In conjunction with 49er Youth Soccer, we have all girls teams available for 8-13 year olds (U10, U12 & U14). These teams have 5 home games and 5 away games, played in the Auburn/Colfax area. They will also have a seeding tournament August 23.

Uniforms

Uniforms are not included in the registration fee & must be purchased & worn to games. Jerseys will be available for purchase from us. Black shorts & socks can be purchased from any sporting good store. Shinguards are mandatory at all practices & games, completely covered by socks.

Team Requests

The league is growing and it's becoming difficult to get teams formed in time, due to the hundreds of on-going requests that we receive. We can only try to accommodate requests made at the early bird registration days, after that no requests will be honored.

GCYSL makes it a priority to place a player with the same coach (team) as the previous year if you request it. However, coaches sometimes change age groups and not all players will be eligible to return to the same coach. If you're a younger player and you want to move up with your coach, you MUST request that on the Registration Supplement. For this and other requests made at the early bird on-site registration, we'll make every effort to honor requests. The date your completed registration form is received in the office may be used to help decide team placement. You should hear from your coach by the 2nd week in August. NO CHANGE TO REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED ONCE YOUR FORM IS TURNED IN!

Practices

The practice days, times & locations are determined by the coach. Please be prepared to work with the other parents on the team for carpooling if certain days/times are difficult for you. Once a team assignment is made, your child can only be moved on a space available basis and under extreme circumstances that must be approved by the league President.

Refund Policy

As soon as we register a player, we incur costs that we can't get back, so part of the registration fee is non-refundable (see Refund Policy). No refunds are available after the first game is played. No exceptions. Refunds must be requested in writing to the league address. Refunds will be processed in September.

Referees

Referees are greatly needed. A new regional requirement states that we need 1 adult referee in training for every 3 youth referees. Please help us get enough referees by volunteering for training. 16 hours of certification are required. Clinics schedules are posted on the website. Call 272-5357 or email referee@goldcountrysoccer.org for more information. Pay is based on age of the team being refereed.

Coaches

As our program continues to grow, we are in need of additional coaches for the coming season. Teams will be limited by the number of coaches we have as of June 15. GCYSL will provide clinics for all new coaches as well as advanced clinics for our more experienced coaches. Call 272-5357 or email coaching@goldcountrysoccer.org for information.

Other volunteers

Our league is run by volunteers. With 1500 registered players, we always need help. We particularly need help with setting up & striping fields during the season. This job has a nominal pay associated with it. Call 272-5357 or email volunteer@goldcountrysoccer.org for information.

Summer Soccer Camp

We're pleased to offer two options for summer soccer. British Challenger camps are week long camps designed for overall soccer training, ages 3 to 16. Camps will be in July. Check our website for dates. You can register on-line or pick up a flyer at registration.

NO DOGS

We've had ongoing problems with this. NONE of our fields allow dogs. Please help us keep the use of the fields. It's also important that everyone help clean up after games and practices. Also, Sierra College strictly prohibits children climbing the banks. We paid $1000 last year because of soil erosion. If you play or practice there, please KEEP YOUR CHILDREN OFF THE BANK!
