Gold Country United - Club Soccer

posted Apr 5, 2017, 8:43 AM by Web Administrator   [ updated Apr 14, 2017, 9:43 AM ]

Gold Country United (GCU) is our "club" soccer program and is intended for players between the ages of 8-18 who are looking for a higher level of coaching and competition.  Children must attend mandatory try-outs which are usually held in spring each year (check the Announcements section of the home page for dates).
Club teams typically play league games on Saturdays with games being within an hours drive of the Sacramento area.  Obviously, there are exceptions to this such as home games, tournaments, etc. Teams are matched by age group and ability level via an annual "seeding" tournament.  Club teams play rain or shine.

For more information or to get signed up for Club Soccer, visit their website at www.goldcountryunited.com
Recreational Soccer
Rec soccer accounts for over 75% of the teams and players in our league.  The ability levels are typically from beginners to those who are more experienced and developing their skills. Recreation soccer teams are matched up by age groups (2 yr. brackets) and then by overall team ability level via the annual "seeding" tournament, making the season fair and fun for everyone.
Other Differences
Unlike club soccer, there are no try-outs.  Instead, children get placed on teams based on several factors (area where you live, "friend/coach" requests, etc..).  Your child's coach will typically hold practices two days a week in the afternoons - this will vary by team/coach.  Once the season starts, games will be played locally within western Nevada County on Saturday mornings. Your child is guaranteed to play in each and every game they are eligible.

Another key difference between Recreational and Club soccer - Recreational games can/will get cancelled due to inclement weather, rain or unsafe playing conditions.
Still trying to decide whether a Recreational team, a Select team or a Competitive team is best for your child? Click here for a comparison, or here for Frequently Asked Questions about Gold Country United, our club soccer program.

Calling All Parents - Board of Directors needs your help!

posted Mar 27, 2017, 10:05 AM by Web Administrator   [ updated Apr 13, 2017, 4:36 PM ]

Gold Country Soccer needs a sizable working board as the foundation for the approximate 1200 kids that we service. We have unfortunately had a number of our long-term board members retire recently and find ourselves in a desperate search for replacements.  The requirements are simple - you just need a small amount of time and energy each month to devote to the organization supporting the game our children love to play - we will provide you with all the training you need.

The bottom line:  The continuation of GCYSL requires a fully staffed board - we need your help!

Please review the list of board roles (found by under "About Us > Board of Directors").  If you feel capable of helping us fill any of these roles, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you.  As an added incentive, board member families are exempt from paying league fees and are extended preferential status for team and reffing assignments (as available).
